Continuing Education

A Registered dental assistant may fulfill the Continuing Education requirements through Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) approved self-study, interactive computer courses, or lecture courses. A dental assistant must complete six (6) hours of continuing education each year in areas covering dental assistant duties. At least three (3) of these six (6) hours must be clinical continuing education. Beginning October 1, 2021 all registered dental assistants must take a course in human trafficking prevention approved by the executive commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (TSBDE Rule 114.1)

The American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA) is a recognized provider of continuing education and it’s constituents organizations (TDAA & local organizations) by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

Choices of Continuing Education include:
1) Attending local dental assisting courses from several metropolitan cities in Texas: Local Organizations
2) Attending TDAA sponsored courses
3) Taking courses (live webinars & home study courses) by ADAA

The ADAA provides Home Study Continuing Education (CE) Courses on a wide range of topics from infection control and radiology to practice management and tobacco cessation. Upon successful completion of the courses, Dental Assistants earn credits for Recertification requirements, which include courses relating to Dental Assisting duties approved as appropriate CE for maintaining a Texas RDA Credential
