RDA Renewal Process

Renewal postcards are sent out 60 days prior to your expiration date of your registration by TSBDE to the mailing address they have on file (be sure to keep current).

A system has been created in order to evenly distribute renewals to be moved to a two year license.  Licensees/Registrants selected for a one year renewal will pay the one year renewal fee.  Licensees/Registrants selected for a two year renewal will be required to pay the 2 year renewal fee.

RDA’s are required to complete six (6) hours of continuing education each year and 3 of those hours must be “live CE” (meaning a lecture you attend or a live webinar) in areas covering dental assistant duties as well as complete a Human Trafficking prevention course that is approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) as a prerequisite prior to renewing your registration.  All CE must be through Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) approved providers (Rule 104.2) which may be completed by self-study, interactive computer courses, or lecture courses.

When you renew your RDA, you should NOT send proof of continuing education hours unless specifically asked to do so.  Only if you are selected to be audited by TSBDE and notified that you are being audited do you need to follow specific instructions to securely submit your proof of CE hours with the e-Strategy Solutions portal.  Rule 114.2 states “Up to 6 hours of CE may be carried forward from the year preceding the current renewal period”  So perhaps one year you completed more CE than required and the next year you did not.

Renewing Online is the easiest way to renew your RDA

Do not wait until the last minute to renew because delays or problems can develop where you need assistance, which take time and you do not want to be late and have late charges added to the fees (even 1 day late will incur a late fee!). There is no grace period for renewingLink to the Online Licensing system

To renew and/or maintain an existing registration, please login with your existing user ID and password, or click on the prompt to register as a new user.  If you are unable to renew online using the Online Licensing System, you may request that a paper renewal application be mailed to you.

After submitting your renewal, a copy of your application summary and online payment receipt will be emailed to you.  Registration expiration dates are updated on the TSBDE website the next business day and can be verified in the Licensee Search.

There are a few reasons why a registration was not renewed which include:

  • Expired CPR – perhaps you answered “yes” but provided information of an expired certification
  • Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Child Support hold
  • CE Audit – if you have been selected to submit proof of the required number of CE hours & documentation, and the audit has not been completed yet.

As of September 1, 2021 TSBDE eliminated the printing and mailing out of renewal certificates.  A registrant will now have the ability to generate a digital copy of their license renewal.  (Initial registrants will continue to be issued for new RDA’s).  Renewal certificates will be available for printing 24-48 hours after the renewal application has been approved.  There is no fee to print the renewal certificate yourself and you do not have to print a color copy.
